Taking action after a work-related brain injury

On Behalf of | Mar 30, 2018 | Workplace Injuries

When working in a high-risk industry, serious injuries such as traumatic brain injuries are a rare but possible consequence of an accident. Brain injuries can be the unfortunate result of many different accidents and injuries in the workplace.

Most commonly however, a brain injury is the result of an accident involving a vehicle or from being struck on the head by a large object. In the state of California, working on a construction site presents a substantial risk of being involved in an accident that results in a head or brain injury.

What are some of the treatments that are available for brain injuries?

One of the most wide-ranging and effective forms of treatment for a traumatic brain injury is known as Cognitive Rehabilitation Therapy (CRT). CRT is a broad method that seeks to train a damaged brain into performing a wider range of functions more effectively. It uses many different methods, from speech training to physical therapy, in order to engage the patient and help them work through their injury.

In addition, the treatment is highly specialized to the patient in question. A person with acute short term memory loss might be encouraged through memory strategies and journaling exercises, whereas a person who is struggling to walk or speak will have more in-depth treatment based on their specific needs.
