Working with scaffolding on a regular basis can be very stressful. Even if you know the scaffolding has been properly built, you will still worry if it will hold strong while you are on it. Scaffolding can give under extreme weight, weather conditions, wind and because of improper construction. Here are some scaffolding safety tips for your Modesto workplace.

You need to understand load capacity and then follow it. You cannot put more weight on the scaffolding than it can handle. If you do, it’s very likely that the scaffolding will collapse underneath you. When building the scaffolding, you need to take into account the type of material that it will hold and how much it weighs.

Any scaffolding structure you build on a worksite needs to be inspected regularly. If you leave the scaffolding up overnight when no one is at the site, it should be inspected for tampering and other issues the next morning before any workers climb onto it to begin the day.

All employees working on scaffolding should be properly trained regarding how the scaffolding works and is operated. Training should include how employees are to get on and off the scaffolding and how employees should handle an emergency situation should one occur while on it.

Make sure you always wear the proper personal protective equipment, or PPE. This can include a helmet, goggles and gear used for preventing falls. You should also only wear boots that are nonslip.

Being injured on the job due to a failure with scaffolding can lead to severe injuries and even death. If you follow the safety tips outlined in this post, you should be on the right path for performing safe work while on scaffolding in California.
