On Behalf of | Jan 11, 2023 | Injuries, Workplace Injuries

Sustaining an injury in the workplace can make it difficult or impossible for someone to continue to do their job, threatening their financial situation and livelihood. Because of this, it is important that both employers and employees do everything they can to prevent on-the-job accidents and situations that can lead to getting hurt. Neck injuries are a type of injury that affects people in more hazardous occupations like construction as well as those considered to be safer, like office work.

Here are some of the most common causes of on-the-job neck injuries in California workplaces.

Falls

Falls in the workplace can happen for many reasons, such as encountering a slippery floor in a break room or failing to see an obstacle on the floor in a hallway. A sudden movement such as a fall can be traumatic to the neck, resulting in a sprain.

Poor posture

Neck injuries caused by poor posture tend to get worse over time if the sufferer does not correct their posture. Those most at risk for injuries caused by poor posture include people who sit at a computer for long periods of time.

Poor lifting technique

In jobs that require lifting heavy objects regularly, a poor lifting technique can be responsible for causing neck injuries. To help avoid this, people should practice safe lifting procedures, such as putting most of their weight in the legs rather than the arms and not making sudden twists or turns.

By knowing some of the most common causes of neck injuries, employers and employees can help avoid disruptive ailments in the workplace.
